I've been aware of the idea of a
Space Elevator since the 80's, when I read about in the
2300AD roleplaying game. Until recently, however, I'd never thought I'd live to see one actually built.
This article on CNNMoney.com makes one believe that the concept is becoming more science than science-fiction. Advances in nanotubes are the key, and serious money is flowing into the field. According to some estimates, I may only be 50 years old by the time cars are carrying cargo and people into orbit.
